Banff Proposal Location

Kevin reached out to me late in late July about proposing to his girlfriend in Banff National Park at the beginning of September. Originally, he inquired about proposing at Lake Louise but after we talked more, I sent over some alternative proposal locations in Banff National Park. Don’t get me wrong, I love Lake Louise but Banff has other incredible locations in the area that offer their own unique beauty and a bit more privacy. We ended up settling on Peyto Lake. It’s a stunning lake just north up Highway 93 about a half hour from Lake Louise. It is one of my favourite lakes to shoot at as it’s a bit quieter (especially at sunset or sunrise) and the views cannot be beat. Read on to find out more about this Peyto Lake Engagement.

Peyto Lake Engagement

The one challenging part about shooting a surprise proposal at Peyto Lake is the lack of cell phone reception there. Armed with an AllTrails map and a plan, Kevin set off on a short hike up with Erin in the dark to reach the viewpoint above Peyto Lake just before sunrise.

My husband came along on this Peyto Lake engagement adventure to keep me company on the drive out west and it worked pretty well to pretend like we were just another couple there soaking in the scenery. Once the sky started to light up, I offered to take a photo of Kevin and Erin on his cell phone and then he turned to her and asked her to marry him. It was such a sweet moment and they were both so happy. We spent the next hour and half taking photos around Peyto Lake and then ventured down onto the Icefield’s Parkway for some fun road shots.
