This snowy Emerald Lake elopement is a perfect example of how fun it can be to embrace whatever weather the Rockies throw at us. Their day ended in a whiteout with a snowball fight and it was perfect, I can’t wait to share this elopement!
When Emma & Kieran reached out late last summer to inquire about an April wedding in Canada, I was so excited. They said that they were outdoorsy and they liked the idea of having a wedding by the water. Now, if you know the Rockies, you know that open water is hard to come by in April, with most lakes not breaking up until late May or June depending on the year. But, as an experienced Emerald Lake Elopement Photographer, I knew the perfect place for them.
Emerald Lake is located just over the Alberta border in British Columbia in Yoho National Park. It’s a gorgeous green lake that is stunning year round. Just down the road is the Natural Bridge, which is where I figured we would be able to find some open water for them.
Emma and Kieran arrived to the Natural Bridge with a few of their closest friends to begin their day. It was an overcast day but pretty warm for the time of the year. Emma got changed in the parking lot and then heading down to the shores of the Kicking Horse River for the first look with Kieran. It was such a sweet moment. They then exchanged some private vows on the cliffs above the river.
Everyone climbed in the vehicles and off we went to Emerald Lake for the ceremony. The ceremony itself was short and sweet and afterwards, we snuck off for some couples photos by the lagoon by the lodge while the rest of the crew warmed up. The open water coupled with the soft falling snow made for some incredible memories and photos.
After a brief warm up, we all headed out onto the lake. The snow blew in more and it was truly surreal to be out on the lake in the endless white solitude. Then they turned on some Taylor Swift and had a great big dance party. It was an incredible day celebrating two absolutely wonderful and kind humans.
